Orthodontic solutions for all ages
Early Treatment
According to the American Association of Orthodontists, kids should have an initial orthodontic screening at age 7. Early evaluation doesn't necessarily mean treatment is required. If work is needed, we will offer plans to help improve your child’s orthodontic and dental health.
For instance, early treatment may only require management of your child's bad oral habits, such as thumb-sucking, tongue thrusting, and mouth breathing. These parafunctional habits often lead to orthodontic problems such as an open bite, which may impair speech and chewing ability in children. Dr. Rogers and Dr. Hamby will be able to correct these parafunctional habits with various orthodontic treatments.

Adolescent Treatment
For many teens, braces are a rite of passage. They're one more example of the changes adolescents undergo at this time — along with growth in stature, edgier tastes in clothes and music, and an increasing degree of self-awareness. Our teenage patients frequently begin treatment not wanting to show their teeth when they smile, but they proudly show off those pearly whites on the last day of their orthodontic treatment.
Having healthy, straight smiles are beneficial in teenagers. It reduces the risk of plaque and food traps due to crowded teeth. With how busy teenagers are, it is much easier for them to clean straight teeth, preventing puberty gingivitis from developing or worsening. It also guides permanent teeth into a more favorable position, preventing severe crowding later on.

Adult Treatment
It's never too late to achieve the smile you have always wanted – a stunning, straight smile. With the advancement in Orthodontics, we are seeing more and more adult patients in our office. Some might have missed out on getting braces as a child or experienced relapse after a few years from their previous orthodontic treatment.
When considering adult treatment, you may worry about the impact of wearing highly visible metal braces. Fortunately, latest orthodontic options like clear aligners are now available, so no one would even know you are having treatment.

Metal Braces
Braces always come into your mind when you think of orthodontic treatment. It is the traditional method of correcting mild to complex bite problems that have been around for decades already. It consists of bonded metal brackets to each tooth and colorful O-elastic rings that hold the metal wire in place. Children and teenagers love this because they can change colors depending on their moods, events, or preferences.
Metal braces remain popular for many good reasons: they offer a reliable, effective, and economical treatment option. Although metal braces are noticeable, we use smaller, lighter, and more comfortable metal brackets here at Orthodontic Associates of Greenville.

Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces are a variation of metal braces. It is a fixed orthodontic appliance but utilizes a translucent bracket that blends with the teeth's natural color, making it less noticeable. This is one of the most popular discreet options for adults who are unsuitable for clear aligners or want something fixed.
Since the appliance is fixed and cannot be removed, it is in a constant active state and hence as effective as metal braces – no need to worry about having to remember to put them in and out, like what you need to do with clear aligners. However, there are a few trade-offs versus its metal counterpart: ceramic brackets are less durable, more expensive, and come with clear elastics that easily stain.

Clear Aligners
Clear aligners are one of the most popular alternatives to metal braces that offer a discreet and more comfortable way to correct misalignment of teeth. Self-conscious teenagers and professionals love it for being so discreet! Straighten your teeth with a series of clear aligner trays – no poking metal brackets, wires, and colorful elastic rings. They are completely removable when eating, tooth brushing & flossing, and for important social occasions.
Clear aligner technology has been improving over the years. It can now correct more complex bite problems that once would have been too complicated for this treatment.

Retainers
Retention phase of orthodontic treatment is the most crucial part of your treatment but is also the most neglected part. Wearing retainers helps prevent the teeth from shifting back to their original position by holding teeth in place while allowing surrounding gums and bone to adjust. Often a patient will be required to wear the retainer at all times except when eating for a period determined by the orthodontist. Then after some time, it may only be necessary to wear it at night.
Several different kinds of retainers are available, all of which are custom-made just for you. We will recommend the type (or types) that will work best in your situation, and we'll tell you exactly when and how long you need to wear them.
